GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A Clay County committee will decide Monday on whether to approve a transfer of funds so that the Sheriff's Office can pay off inmate medical bills.

Sheriff Rick Beseler says he needs $80,000 to cover bills from the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

In fact, inmate medical expenses for this fiscal year have exceeded the prior year's expense by more than $109,000, according to Beseler.

The county's Budget, Finance & Human Services Committee is expected to take up the item around 2:30 p.m.

The Clay County Jail was last reported of being capable of holding around 500 inmates.

Make jails and prisons into mass gas chambers instead. That sure as hell would be a crime deterant. Or better yet' make loser inmates targets at shooting ranges!

The inmates should be out working on "road crews" every day for 12 hours a day to help earn their keep. They shouldn't be on a paid vacation while incarcerated. As for the mention of over crowding, when you quit living by a civil society's laws you should no longer be protected by a civil society's laws. Stack them in there like cord wood.

Quit locking up so many people. The place is way overcapacity.

We Should Put The Elderly In Prison We should put the elderly in prisons because, they will get a shower everyday. Video surveillance in case of problems. Three meals a day, access to a library, computer, TV, gym, Doctors on site, and free medication if needed. Put criminals in nursing homes, and they get, cold meals, lights off at 7pm, two showers a week, live in a smaller room, and pay rent at $4,000 a month. It’s pretty sad when we treat prisoners better than the elderly.
