ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol says a driver crashed after having a coughing fit behind the wheel.

A crash report from the F.H.P. obtained by Action News says 43-year-old Jim Forrest Jr. was seriously injured after suffering a severe coughing episode that caused him to run off the road onto the west shoulder of I-95.

According to the F.H.P. the crash happened at 12:40 p.m. when Forrest was driving southbound. Their report says Forrest's Ford pickup ran into a tree, spun around and then struck another tree.

I-95 had to be closed for close to an hour for an air ambulance. Forrest was transported to the Orange Park Medical Center in serious condition.

Forrest was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The F.H.P. says there are no charges associated with the crash.
