JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Action News has learned JSO is giving out pay raises.
Councilman John Crescimbeni wants to know why the sheriff is giving out pay raises. "I'm disappointed."
After former Clerk of Courts Jim Fuller awarded bonuses to his employees just before he left office, Councilman Crescimbeni began tracking who gets raises in the city. "I wanted to be plugged in on any shenanigans," said Crescimbeni.
Action News obtained the list of IT people at JSO who are getting a raise. The biggest bump was $16,000. The only explanation given on the form was "salary increase due to additional job responsibilities."
"That applies to everyone in the city. They're doing more than they used to and making less than they used to except for the folks in the sheriff's office," said Crescimbeni.
Undersheriff Dwaine Senterfitt spoke to us by phone, saying JSO has gone through some reorganization and cut six positions. "We've redistributed those to people and have cut some positions out," said Senterfitt.
Those duties were given to the IT employees, which the undersheriff says warrants the pay raise. "Even though they're getting raises, we've saved $100,000," said Senterfitt.
The undersheriff also tells Action News they reorganized positions in the budget office, so employees there also received raises.
