Couple arrested following fraudulent puppy sales
ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office has arrested two people accused of being involved in fraudulent puppy sales. Detectives say 24-year-old Candice Mullis and 23-year-old Justin Stone sold, at least, seven dogs who were sick to area buyers. In turn, they made a profit of $1900.
Detectives say the victims were given fake shot records and registration paperwork for the dogs. Shortly after being purchased, the dogs got sick. As a result, some of the dogs died while others required expensive life-saving medical treatment.
Right now, deputies are unsure whether the sick puppies were raised or if a "puppy mill" operation was involved.
Both were booked in the Clay County Jail on a charge of Organized Schemes to Defraud.
