ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- William Dillow, 27, and Rhonda Wilkerson, 49, were arrested Tuesday on charges they abused two little girls.
Dillow's grandfather, William Dillow Sr., said his grandson told him he didn't do it.
"He said 'no grandpa. I loved them babies,'" he said.
The couple is charged with capital sexual battery. When Dillow made his first appearance in court Wednesday, and the judge read the charges against him, other inmates groaned in disgust.
Investigators say the victims are ages 9 and 11. They say the abuse was discovered when the victims alerted someone at their school.
Dillow Sr. said, "I just don't think he's capable of it. And I know him better than probably anybody else on this planet."
He believes there's more to the story and that someone is lying.
"I know what child abuse is and let me tell you, sock it to him if he's guilty" he said. "But let's not crucify somebody on some information that may or may not be warranted."
Wilkerson also had a first appearance in court Wednesday. She was arrested at her home in Flagler County. Investigators said she will be moved to St. Johns County.
Action News dug up Dillow's criminal history. He's on probation on an unrelated charge. He spent 6 1/2 years in prison in New Jersey on charges of aggravated assault and child endangerment.
Both suspects are being held without bond.
