JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- City Councilman Bill Bishop wants answers about the courthouse crisis. "How did we get to the point of having to delay the thing for a month almost?" he asked.
It's the topic of a Council Oversight Committee conversation Monday night. And it seems they have the same questions we do.
"Who knew what? Who made the decision to move, to shut it down? Did Turner say something to somebody? What did they say? Who did they say it to?" said Bishop.
The city has said all along, the contractor, Turner Construction, is responsible for fixing the faulty fire system. Action News obtained its contract with the city, which said Turner must pay $4000 for each day the project is delayed.
But when it comes to shutting down the old courthouse, before the new one was cleared for occupancy, Bishop says that decision was made somewhere in City Hall. "I don't know where that's going to fall," he said. "Again, that's going to depend a lot on who said what to whom, and under what authority decisions were made. And we don't know that yet."
And then there's a third concern. Bishop is wondering, now that the new building is open, exactly how the fire system was fixed.
Is it a permanent fix or a temporary one? "Now that it's open, now we need to know. Because it does have financial consequences to the city," said Bishop.
