Crews searching for missing swimmer in Nassau Sound
LITTLE TALBOT ISLAND, Fla. -- Crews are searching for a missing swimmer in Nassau Sound Saturday afternoon.
Kathleen Kelso with Little Talbot Island State Park says the man was out canoing with his wife and two kids around 12:50 p.m. Saturday. Kelso says his children were swimming offshore with life jackets on when the man tried to join them.
Kelso says the man hit a drop-off in the water when he was swept away by a strong current.
A passerby then called the Coast Guard about a missing swimmer.
Several agencies including the Coast Guard, crews from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission then began searching waters in Nassau Sound, north of Little Talbot Island State Park for the missing man.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office also called a dive team to the scene to locate the man.
Action News has a crew on the scene and will bring you the very latest details at 6 p.m. on CBS47.
