Cyclist hit and killed in Arlington crash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man riding his bicycle on the sidewalk was struck and killed by an SUV in Arlington.
It happened Sunday afternoon at Townsend Boulevard near Merrill Road.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said John Dougherty, 36, died at the scene. Police say the SUV was speeding. Authorities say the car then smashed into a nearby wall.
The driver, 29-year-old Lee Bond, of Jacksonville, is currently at UF Health in critical condition.
Traffic homicide detectives are investigating to determine if any charges will be filed.
