DCF worker charged in sex abuse probe

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An employee with the Department of Children & Families is facing charges in a sexual abuse investigation surrounding her children.

Tara Vereen is charged with witness tampering for telling her kids to keep quiet about the abuse.

Vereen's husband, Louis, was charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of their two daughters. He was arrested last December.

A new law passed in 2012 that required certain people, including DCF workers, to report cases of abuse when they know about it.

Investigators say Tara Vereen knew of the abuse and failed to report it.

The children are now receiving therapy while in protective custody.
