JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- A Jacksonville Department of Children and Families worker is under investigation, accused of abusing her power.
Carla Mixon's son is a sixth-grader at Ribault Middle School. Mixon said her husband's ex-girlfriend who is a DCF employee pulled the boy out of class without her knowledge. Mixon showed Action News the school sign-in sheet with Carol Cromer's name printed clearly.
"I bet she flashed her DCF badge. I said OK, that's the last time she flashes her badge to get my son.
Mixon took action and called Duval County school police. Their report says witnesses told them Cromer displayed her DCF ID to get access to the boy. "There's nothing legally binding for her to visit my son and take him out of class," said Mixon.
According to that police report, there are no DCF cases involving Mixon's son being investigated. A spokesman for DCF wouldn't go on camera but told Action News via email that DCF is looking into the issue. He also said Cromer was transferred into an administrative position.
While Mixon is glad her son is OK, she wants to know what the DCF employee's motives were, especially after hearing what they talked about. "She said she misses me and wanted to take me with her when her and my dad broke up," said Mixon.
DCF also tells Action News that with Cromer being moved to an administrative position, she will not have contact with clients during the investigation.
