DEA: $2.97M worth of cocaine recovered in latest haul in St. Augustine
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Investigators recovered nearly $3 million worth of cocaine from the shores of St. Augustine.
Action News first reported the discovery of the drugs near Crescent Beach on Wednesday.
Agents with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Office of Air and Marine Agents helped seize 40 pounds of cocaine worth $2.97 million.
The agency responded to a call from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office for help in recovering the drugs.
The Department of Homeland Security said the contraband was handed over to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for processing.
It is the second time drugs have washed ashore in St. Johns County. Crews hauled in $7M worth of cocaine from the ocean last May.
