JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It's a well known problem down the streets of Julington Creek Road and Hood Landing Road: people drive too fast and crash. And it happened again over the weekend.

"We've been living in this house 30 years," said Ann Brabant.

It's the home Ann and Phillip Brabant raised their family. But it has also been a source of fear. They tell Action News in 30 years their home or property has been hit by drivers 20 times.

"In most cases, in all cases that we've seen, the driver has been drunk. Drinking," she said.

JSO says that was also the case Saturday when the Brabant's neighbor's mailbox was hit. The homeowner had to hold the driver on the ground until police got there. Neighbors here say stop signs are ignored. Speeding is commonplace. And crashes happen on the regular.

We looked into it. And sure enough according to JSO, there have been 12 crashes on this stretch in the past year. Most minor -- but several were cases of DUI -- including yet another one in the Brabant's yard.

"The guy got out he threw beer cans all over the yard so as to make it look like he had not been drinking and then took off."

Eight years ago, the Brabant's took things into their own hands and built this wall, complete with lights to alert drivers. But they want the city to do more. They've written letter after letter asking for a guardrail or speed bumps. They were told this section of road doesn't warrant it.

"I'd like someone to give us notice or recognition that this is dangerous and maybe do something about it because this has been all out of our own expense. Maybe JEA can give us a break for all the lights!" she said with a smile.

Action News has reached out to the city to find out why the section doesn't warrant a guard rail.  The city is looking into the issue for us.
