JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Friends and family of Lisa Veney gathered at the Applebee's on Lane Avenue for a candlelight vigil six days after her tragic death inside the popular restaurant.
Sierra Veney, 18, was with her mother on Dec. 29 when police say her estranged husband shot her to death.
Sierra Veney and her older brother, DJ, were surrounded by friends Saturday night holding candles and balloons in honor of their mom.
"Imagine having to plan your mother's funeral at 20 years old," said DJ Veney.
During the vigil, DJ Veney said that thanks to prayer, he was able to forgive his father.
"She never deserved anything like this, I mean nobody does, but she's such a loving person and I hate the fact that this had to happen," said Sierra Veney.
Dozens gathered back at the scene where Lisa Veney was killed wearing her favorite color, green. They prayed and sang while remembering her life.
"She was so outgoing and loving. Everyone she came across just loved her she's just a wonderful person, very giving," said Sierra Veney.
An account has been set up to help pay for funeral arrangements. If you'd like to donate you can do so at any VyStar Credit Union, the account number is 7504512121 and the routing number is 263079276.
Lisa Veney's estranged husband, Sheridan Veney, has been charged in her killing. While he had no prior record in Duval County, Sheridan Veney was charged with battery in Maryland for an incident involving his wife.
