MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- A husband is behind bars after police say he ran over his wife with his truck, killing her.
"I was there, witnessed everything," said victim Nola Collier's daughter, Jennifer Higginbotham.
She fought back tears remembering her mom's final moments. She stood in the driveway watching as she says Nola Collier's husband ran over her with his truck.
"God will have his vengeance. My mom's blood is on his hands."
According to the police report, Nola and Brooks Collier were arguing. He jumped in his truck to leave. She opened his driver's side door to try to get him to stay. Nola Collier was standing between the door and the body of the truck when Brooks Collier started backing out, knocking Nola to the ground. His front left tire ran over her.
"I was in shock. I was really just in shock and confused," said Higginbotham's fiancé, Anthonio Casanova. He also witnessed it unfold.
Higginbotham didn't know what to do. She tells Action News she ran to her mom's side and rolled her over. That's when Brooks took off. Police arrested him and charged him with failure to remain at a crash involving death.
It is a charge that Casanova says deserves a stiff penalty.
"That lady lost her life and she's gone. That's it. She's not coming back," he told Action News.
Higginbotham added her mom was a good Christian woman who always put everyone else before herself.
"She was my rock. She never left my side," Higginbotham said.
Clay County Sheriff's deputies say toxicology results are pending to determine if Brooks Collier was drunk. Family members say there's no way he wasn't.
