ELKTON, Fla. -- Elkton was one of the hardest hit areas during Saturday night's thunderstorms. Around 9 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for St. Johns County, that's when neighbors say a tornado tore through the town uprooting trees and destroying barns.

According to John Carter, who lives in Elkton, barns belonging to Middleton Farms were destroyed. A barn located on State Road 207 was practically turned upside down. While another barn on Middleton and Cypress Roads, was missing a door and its roof was torn off.

Also in the area, a tree fell on top of a large boat. Tree limbs and branches were scattered throughout the streets.

There is still no confirmation from the National Weather Service on whether or not a tornado actually touched down in this area.
