Deer the cause of fatal morning crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A deer is being blamed for a fatal accident this morning. The driver tried to swerve to miss the animal.

Blaine Swaim, 20, and two passengers were traveling south on Interstate 95 Friday morning when a deer entered the roadway.

Swaim swerved to the right to avoid it. The pickup hit a guardrail then traveled beyond and struck an over-head sign support pole.

Daniel Abell, 19, was pronounced dead on the scene and Dakota McLeod, 14, was transported to UF & Shands Jacksonville with critical injuries.

Swaim was also taken to UF & Shands Jacksonville with serious injuries.

None of the teens was wearing a seatbelt.
