Defense workers to receive furlough notices Friday
WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Pentagon will begin sending furlough notices Friday.
That means workers will be forced to stay home and not get paid for one day a week for 22 weeks. The sequestration-related cuts would run from April 21 through September 21. The furloughs will affect most of the defense department's 800,000 civilian employees.
Nearly 1,000 Florida National Guard members will also face cuts. About 400 soldiers won't be deployed because they are awaiting mandatory physicals.
The cuts will also hurt counter-narcotics operations. That unit will have to layoff 85 people.
