Deputies on leave after deadly shooting
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A man is dead after a police shooting in Putnam County.
A spokesman for the sheriff's office says deputies responded to a disturbance in progress at a home at 955 Old Welaka Road around 9 p.m. Investigators would not say what type of disturbance led to the emergency call.
An altercation took place and a deputy Raymond Strickland opened fire on 35-year-old Alfred Dobson. The suspect died at the hospital.
Deputy Matt Jones and deputy Shannon Depew were also on scene but did not fire their weapons.
Deputy Stickland is on administrative leave pending the completion of the shooting investigation. Deputy Jones is on light duty because he received some injuries during the fight. Deputy Depew is on regular duty status.
At the request of Sheriff Jeff Hardy, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation. It's a standard move when deadly force is used.
