Deputies search for suspect after robbery and chase in St. Johns County
ST. AUGUSTINE -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says two suspects are in custody and one is on the loose after a robbery turned into a police chase.
It happened Sunday night on Wildwood Drive in St. Augustine. Deputies say three people were seen leaving the scene after an armed robbery at a nearby Kangaroo. Shortly after, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says a deputy saw the car matching the description leaving a trailer park nearby.
After a short chase down Wildwood Drive Deputies were able to use stop sticks to puncture the tires and stop the car the suspects were driving. Deputies say they then used a pit maneuver, bumping the suspects car and causing it to go out of control.
When the car stopped, deputies say the suspects ran into some woods nearby. Deputies say they were able to catch two of the suspected thieves. One man was taken to the hospital with chest pains, another with non-life threatening gunshot wound. Deputies believe he was shot by a fellow suspect. They are unclear whether the shooting is accidental.
Cigarettes believed to have been stolen from the Kangaroo along with a gun were recovered at the scene.
A third suspect remains on the loose.
