LAKE CITY, Fla. -- The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says it has arrested the man believed to have burglarized several area convenience stores.
Larry Sampson, 35, was arrested Friday after a short foot chase with deputies.
Deputies say during the months of July and August, five stores were burglarized. The first was June 16, at the Spring Food Store on Llewellyn Avenue in Lake City. Deputies say several items were taken. The final robbery was Aug. 21, when deputies say a suspect broke the front window of the Fast Track store on Highway 100 and Price Creek Road. Deputies say that once inside the store, deputies day the robber ordered the clerk to the back of the store. He then took several items and left the store.
Deputies say a trail of evidence from the July 16 robbery led them to Simpson. On Aug. 21, Simpson's home was searched but no further evidence was found.
On Aug. 23, deputies attempted to arrest Simpson but he fled into some nearby woods. After a brief foot chase, deputies used a Taser to stop Simpson. He was then arrested and taken to Lake Shore Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the arrest. Simpson was later transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility.
He is now facing charges of robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, probation violation, trespassing, criminal mischief and resisting an officer. No bond is set.
