JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  A man has been convicted on an armed robbery charge for stealing diapers from a local Wal-Mart.

Edwards, 41, tried to steal 13 bags of baby diapers from the Wal-Mart on Normandy Boulevard in May. He was stopped by store security as he tried to leave the store. Edwards pepper-sprayed the loss prevention officers and fled.

Edwards also has felony convictions for possession of cocaine and grand theft. Edwards was released from prison within three years of committing this crime. He now faces 10 years in prison, with a five-year minimum mandatory. He will be sentenced the week of December 10, 2012.

He 'peppered sprayed' the loss prevention officers? I didn't know that was considered being 'armed'. It wasn't a deadly weapon. He 'had' drug problems, and now he's stealing diapers, for who, his kids? This guy doesn't need more jail time, he needs a job and help with how to live his life. He doesn't sound like a hard core criminal, just a desperate man trying to stay afloat in a sorry economy.
