ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A disabled veteran and his family are getting a new home. The Home For Our Troops organization is building houses for disabled veterans.

Breaking ground is just the beginning; soon the Long family will be calling a new place home in Florida.

Marine Lance Cpl. Brandon Long said, "Words can't even describe what this means to me, to get a house, to be a husband again versus my family having to take care of me. It just means so much to me."

Brandon Long was on his first deployment when he lost both of his legs in an IED blast in Afghanistan in December 2010.

"In our apartment I can't do stuff like laundry and dishes, I'm very limited with that," said Brandon Long.

That's why organizations like "Homes Homes For Our Troops" raises money to build homes for severely injured veterans at no cost to the veteran.

Brandon Long's wife, Nicole Long, said, "It's surreal. I can't believe this is happening to my family now."

One thing they're most excited about is the brotherhood in the neighborhood. The organization has already built two other homes for disabled veterans on Honey Branch Lane.

"I've been told we've got other Marines interested, so the more Marines the better," said Brandon Long.

Though the foundation of the home hasn't been laid yet, Brandon Long and his family said they'll be watching every step of the way.

"It's going to mean the world to us, we're excited and can't wait," said Brandon Long.

The family expects the home to be ready by the end of spring 2014.
