JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Several dolphins in the St. Johns River may be distressed and need help according to the St. Johns Riverkeeper.

A badly entangled adult dolphin was spotted near the cruise ship terminal Thursday. The Riverkeeper reports that the animal continues to surface on its side and it appears to have angular deformity in its tail region. It is thought that this is the same dolphin that produced sightings back in December.

A dolphin calf was also spotted near Blount Island Thursday and appeared to have a bright orange circular object surrounding its neck region.

The
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is abreast of the sightings.

If you see a distressed dolphin you are asked to immediately call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission hotline at 1-888-404- 3922 (FWCC).
