JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The flu can spread easier than you think. All it takes is one or two organisms to get you sick, which is why you need lots of rest and more than just your hand sanitizer.

Joseph Robinson, 20, got sick with the flu last week and is just now starting to feel a little better.

"It was horrible. I couldn't get out of bed. I had the chills very bad, I couldn't move. I hated it," said Robinson.

According to Dr. John Trainer of Baptist Primary Care people who are still showing symptoms like Robinson should not be out in the streets, let alone, at work.

"No one wants to be seen as slacking off and so their temptation is to return to work prematurely," said Trainer.

Trainer says not only is that person's recovery delayed but they're still contagious which puts co-workers in jeopardy.

If the virus is caught in the first 48 hours, recovery can still take about a week, according to Trainer.

Good hygiene continues to be the best way to avoid the infectious disease, and hand sanitizer is not enough.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends and my personal practice is a good 15-30 seconds of hand washing," said Trainer.

According to the Department of Health, the only cases that get reported are flu-related deaths involving children. There has been one death this year.

Doctors don't get paid to stay home either. If they are not seeing patients they don't get paid either and you don't get seen when you have the flu. How is that for real world.

Concur with Gunny~most people cannot afford to not work regardless of how they feel. Many doctors do not live in the "real work world" as most do. How great it would be to get paid to stay home when sick!

Unfortunately most people that still have jobs don't get paid "sick leave" so you can't afford to take the needed time off.
