The real answer is to clear the homeless out of the Hemming Plaza area. Any city which lets homeless loiter in the city center and parks is inviting criminal activity and to all visitors looks like a blight on the city. Turning the area over to a non-profit, soon will lead to another tax for taxpayers. Nothing in life is free. If the homeless need work, I suggest the city find city work for them and let them stay in one of the many building owned and not actively being used by the city. Our city counsel need to start geting creative. There continues to be too much waste of taxpayers money for resources, plant, property, and wages for administrators. I believe our mayor and city leaders spend too much time and money on travel, and trying to bring businesses to the city while, ignoring the hundreds of uncared for easements, recycle containers, and making our neighborhoods look nice and clean. Taxpayers need to just look around for themselves and ask....when was the last time I saw the city cutting trees in easements, cleaning drainage easements, replacing the unsightly recycle containers, or doing tasks to make the city of Jacksonville beautiful, not just the airport, seaport, and downtown. What are we really paying all our taxes for????? More taxes?
