JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol says it has made an arrest in a crash that killed a student from the University of North Florida on New Year's Day.
Investigators say 20-year-old Sean Frederik Franke was arrested and booked into the Duval County Pre-trial Facility on charges related to the crash that killed 20-year-old Dara Michelle Kusiv.
Franke was driving his pickup truck westbound on Beach Boulevard when he went off the road and hit a post near Kernan Boulevard in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, according to investigators.
There were three passengers in the car with Franke. Dara Michelle Kusiv, a 20-year-old female from Longwood, Fla., was killed in the crash.
Franke, Samantha Kasten, 19, and Jacob Materia,19, were taken to UF & Shands with serious injuries.
FHP tells Action News Franke turned himself in after details of the investigation emerged.
We asked why it took so long to arrest the suspect. FHP said is was because the investigation took time.
The agency says it had to wait for lab results from FDLE, then obtain an arrest warrant from the State Attorney's office.
Franke is facing charges of driving under the influence, manslaughter, driving under the influence, careless driving, and fail to use due care.
