JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man behind the wheel in a crash that killed a local mother last Friday is cooperating with police.

Michael Fortunato, 66, has voluntarily provided FHP with blood samples. A blood analysis is now underway at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to determine if Fortunato was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.

The crash killed 57-year-old Esther Ohayon.  Her 16-year-old daughter, Orly, is in serious condition.

According to FHP, the results could take weeks to complete.

Records from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office confirm Fortunato was involved in another crash in 2009 that killed a 6-year-old girl who was crossing the street with her mom and brother. He was not charged in the crash.

SHould we even dare to address the fact that he had 20 traffic citations before killing that little girl? Including suspensions? How about the fact that he was driving on a expired license. Perhaps expired beause he couldn't pass an eye test to get it renewed? But really? Does it matter? You killed a little girl and got off because the mother didn't press the button before she walked on a GREEN pedestrian light. If she had, she would have gotten an extra 20 seconds or so to cross. But instead the light turned after only about 17 seconds....never enough time to why was it even green in the first place? But shifting blame back to an eye witness recalls 4 years ago sitting in the car next to him she saw him messing with something under his car seat, not paying attention to the road...but when his light turned green...he just went. Just went. Just drove over a mother and two children. And now again, 4 years later.....he just went....didn't look....ran over a mother and child. Thank god he's been arrested. The world is a safer place tonight. I hope this time it sticks and he doesn't get off on another technicality.

WTF??!?!?!?! This guy killed a 6 year old a few years ago and HE DIDNT STOP DRIVING HIMSELF!!! He should be charged with murder one way or another. Once you kill someone "on accident", you should correct whatever condition caused that (i.e. poor eye sight is a good one) and if you dont and get back behind the wheel you are resposible for your actions and should be held accountable. This is ridiculous to say the least!
