GRANITE FALLS, N.C. -- A seat belt is being credited for saving a man's life in Caldwell County after he plunged into a 100-foot ravine.

The accident happened along Highway 321 in Granite Falls around 8 a.m. Thursday.

The Highway Patrol said the driver lost control of his car when a car ahead of him slowed to make a turn.

The driver was able to crawl out on his own but had to be rescued by firefighters up the steep hillside.
