JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two men have been arrested after The Drug Abatement Response Team did systematic "voluntary inspections" to the Shannon Ridge Apartments.
The multi-agency task force, known as D.A.R.T., conducted what the city of Jacksonville is calling "voluntary inspections" of the complex off Shenandoah Avenue.
At about 9 a.m., the city and JSO initiated the door-to-door search, asking residents to participate in safety and maintenance code inspections. The complex has 19 buildings, 12 of which were occupied. As of 3:30 p.m., eight of those buildings were condemned by the city's municipal code compliance division.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested two people at the scene who had active warrants.
The division issued 45 orders to vacate units. The city has offered to help the displaced residents and a temporary shelter has been set up at the Legends Community Center at 5130 Soutel Drive. JTA provided transportation assistance.
The Duval County Health Department had been advised of a noninfectious tuberculosis patient living at the complex. Out of caution, the department made TB screenings avialable to residents and staff.
