JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It took a jury more than 30 hours to decide Michael Dunn's fate, but according to jailhouse phone calls obtained by Action News, even Dunn himself never imagined it would take that long.

"I'm super confident if they take this to trial it's going to be a short deliberation," he told his fiancé Rhonda Rouer in December 2013, days following his arrest.

Dunn made multiple calls from behind the walls of the Duval County Jail to both his parents and Rouer.

"I have faith that the jury will see what happened. They'll hear what happened and they'll understand," responded Rouer in one call.

More than once, Dunn insisted to Router that his actions that night were justified.

"I'm the ******* victim here. I'm the one who was victimized. I don't know how else to put it," said Dunn. "I'm the victim. I'm the victor, but I was the victim too."

It's also clear, Dunn anticipated being released on bond. In the middle of the night, he says, he woke up and wrote a letter to the judge that he hoped to read in court during his upcoming bond hearing, but first he read it to Rouer for her approval.

"Your honor. The day after Thanksgiving I fought for something I valued the most, my life. Over the years I've spent countless hours practicing and preparing to defend that which I hold most dear, hoping i never have to. I acted within the law but with a tragic outcome. Please grant me this bond so I may return home to my family and prepare to spend that with what I value second most my freedom. I wish to settle this matter and clear my good name. I beg the court to grant me this opportunity to prepare for my defense in peace. I'm an honorable man, not a threat to my community and I swear to abide by the courts order to appear so help me God."

After listening, Rouer responded, "I think that's awesome. That's awesome, baby," before the call ended abruptly.

Dunn never read that statement to the judge and was denied bond five months later in May 2013.

Good job Jax, you made Dunn into a martyer for white justice well more appropriately the lack of white justice. All this trial showed was that if you protect your family or yourself, theres a good chance you will be punished if you are white and the perpetrator is black. Its no longer the land of the free, home of the brave instead it has become to land of the weak loser and home of the nieve. We have reached an epidemic level of injustice for the hardworking proud American white. We have become the slaves, slaves to a nasty master that changes the rules as they see fit(affrmative action anyone?), that works us with no return on ANY OF IT(welfare, you know dat free gubmint money? It comes from someplace you scumbags) and with the noose around are necks only tightening, NEVER loosening(Dunn, Zimm, knockout games, inability for any black to now ever be guilty of racism). The only redeming ideal is that we are a strong and intelligent group, we concour were not concoured and you can take advantage of our kindness and mistake it for weakness for only so long. Seeing injustices that continue to happen everyday and the inaction of the ranks in power today only enpowers us. As with Japan in WWII, you should fear the waking of the now sleeping giant. The stirrings of wakefullness are occuring even as I write this message. Be warned.
