Duval elementary school teacher fired
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local teacher was fired for unprofessional comments and leaving her classroom unattended.
The Duval County School District tells Action News it terminated Ann Shields -- a kindergarten teacher at Stonewall Jackson Elementary.
Officials say Shields left the classroom unattended for at least five minutes. The most recent issue happened in December.
In 2012 and 2013, there were at least five instances where students were either left in the classroom, left in the lunchroom, or left outside without supervision.
Some were missing for up to a half-hour.
Shields was also written up for unprofessional conduct and accused of making racial comments about superiors.
Shields can appeal her termination.
