JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A driver may face charges after hitting an elderly man and leaving the scene, according to police.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the unidentified man stepped off the curb near a Raceway gas station on Lem Turner late Friday night. He was not at a crosswalk. Investigators say he was struck by a vehicle that drove away, but later came back. The victim died at the scene.

Police questioned the driver, but did not immediately identify the person behind the wheel or the reason that person gave for leaving the scene.
