JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Homicide detectives have responded to a home on the Westside after a man found his father unresponsive inside.
JSO says they responded to an injury call on St. Clair Street around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday. George Montgomery Davis, an 82-year-old grandfather, was found unresponsive and was later declared deceased by JFRD.
Police have not released how he died, but do say they suspect foul play.
News of the lost patriarch knocked Davis's family off of their feet. With one painful question looming; why would anyone want to harm a helpless elderly man?
"He was a good man," said Davis's former girlfriend, Lolita Johnson. "I cannot believe someone actually killed him, went in their and killed him, I just can't believe it."
While investigators are still trying to get to the bottom of how Davis was killed, those close to him tell us his son found him badly beaten. Friends say the trusting older man always had his heart and the doors to his home wide open for anyone in need.
"They took advantage of him," said Johnson. "George would be sitting in there with the door unlocked someone might have walked in and killed him or try to rob him or something."
Noe friends and family can only wait and wish for one thing.
"Mr. George would have given you the shirt off his back and I sure hope they find the guy whoever did this to him," said close friend Ilieta Thomas.
