JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- She walked through the Episcopal School of Jacksonville campus for 34 years, and Saturday hundreds raced through The Episcopal School again in Dale Regan's honor. "Dale was a big runner, a big cyclist. She loved being outdoors. She loved being active," said Director of Advancement, Missy Ketchum.

Mothers, fathers, siblings and students came together to remember the schools former leader. Dale Regan worked at The Episcopal School as a teacher and administrator for 34 years. "She would be so proud to see this many people out here today," said Ketchum.

"Her spirit still lives, and we are happy to be a part of this," said father and runner, Robb Chadwick.

The money raised from Saturday's run will go to a memorial fund to help build the Dale Regan Plaza at the Great Oak Tree. "The selfless attitude that she had, it was all about the kids," said Chadwick.

Regan was killed last March when a former teacher stormed into her office and shot her and then himself. It's a memory runners here painfully remember as the issue of gun control heats up. "There is certainly no easy answers. There are a lot of issues including mental illness and all of those things that I think we, as a country, need to look really hard at," said Chadwick.

"It's an important conversation right now as it should be.  Whatever measures we need to take to protect our schools, I am all for those," said Episcopal football coach, Mark Brunell.

That terrible tragedy brings them together as they pounded the pavement through campus led by a dedicated woman they say will never be forgotten.

The foundation hopes to dedicate the Dale Regan Plaza Memorial in March. You can click here to donate to the fund.
