JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Today is evaluation day for Duval School Superintendent Dr. Nicholai Vitti.
Each school board member graded Dr. Vitti on six areas of responsibility: Relationships with the Board, Stakeholder Satisfaction, Staff and Organizational Relationships, Educational Leadership, Fiscal Leadership, and Personal Qualities. "The purpose, and I think the entire board feels this way, is just for us to have an open dialogue with the superintendent about the things we wanted to acknowledge 6 months in," says board member Fel Lee. "An evaluation system works when there's transparency when there's communication and there's clarity on areas that need to be improved," says Dr. Vitti.
Dr. Vitti received a score of all 7's and one 8 for the boards combined score. But the individual scores in each category varied quite a bit.
Overall the board members gave Dr. Vitti much lower scores than he gave himself. With a total of 48 categories, Dr. Vitti gave himself Mostly 10s and 9s. The board gave him mostly 6s, 7s and 8s. With a total score of 7.6. "Superintendent cant be successful without the board. The board can't be successful without the superintendent. And at the end of the day it's just about the kids," says Lee.
Dr. Vitti's lowest score, from both himself and the board, dealt with parents, staff and students feeling safe and respected at school.
