EverBank Field top contender for final World Cup tune-up game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Men’s Soccer team may stop in Jacksonville on its way to Brazil, according to an ESPN report. No formal announcement has been made, but city officials say they are ready for the possibility.

“We’re always talking with the U.S. National team about bringing games to Jacksonville, so any opportunity, especially of this magnitude, would be fantastic for us,” said Joel Lamp, interim director of City of Jacksonville Sports and Entertainment.

EverBank Field has hosted both the men’s and women’s team in matches against Scotland in recent years.

“There are a lot of people taking a chance on Jacksonville, and I think there's going to be a lot of benefits that come from it,” said Eric Dade, executive director of Jacksonville FC, a local youth soccer group.

The game would come as crews continue work on scoreboard improvements at the stadium. Lamp told Action News that would help Jacksonville attract more marquee events in the future.

The stadium improvements should be completed in time for the Jaguars season opener.
