JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Prosecutors said Michael Dunn fired into an SUV full of teens and drove away as if nothing ever happened, and asked the jury to find him guilty of the first-degree murder of Jordan Davis.

Dunn's defense team told the jury Jordan Davis is the one who threatened Michael Dunn all because he asked for a "common courtesy," said Cory Strolla.

Dunn is accused of killing Davis in November 2012, the day after Thanksgiving. Opening statements began Thursday after lunch.

Assistant State Attorney John Guy said a night of mall hopping and girl shopping came to an end at a Gate gas station at Baymeadows Road and Southside Boulevard.

"Bullets, nine of them, had come crashing through the glass and metal," said Guy. "Some of the bullets whizzed by their heads, some of the bullets had been stopped by the metal in the doors. Some of the bullets had been unaccounted for.

"Three of those bullets had found their target," said Guy. Davis was in his best friend's lap with three gunshot wounds to his legs and liver.

"And the blood, that for 17 years, had run so naturally through Jordan Davis' veins and arteries was pouring out of them," said Guy. "The two best friends were side by side for the last time," added Guy.

Strolla blasted the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the State Attorney's Office in his opening statement.

"You're going to find out through the evidence law enforcement didn't care," said Strolla. Dunn's attorney said police failed to record interviews with the three other people in the car.

"The homicide detectives are going to say that's not protocol," exclaimed Strolla. "We don't video and audio people who are allegedly the victim of a crime," said Strolla.

The state called Aliyah Harris, the girlfriend of Jordan Davis, as its first witness, followed by Steven Smith, a contractor who parked at the gas station where the shooting took place. He told jurors he decided to park in a spot away from the SUV because of the loud music.

He testified he saw Dunn pull out a pistol.

The trial resumed after a 20-minute break with witness Andrew Williams on the stand.  He told the jury he helped pull Jordan's body out of the bullet-riddled SUV.

The trial is in recess for the night.  The State of Florida ended the day on witness number 7, Samatha Eichas.

Nativejax-Jordan David did not show any the character of a thug. Thug-synonyms: ruffian, hooligan, vandal, hoodlum, gangster,  villain, criminal; informal tough, bruiser, hardman, goon, heavy, enforcer, hired gun, hood. There's no such thing as thug music but there is a such thing as thug life! Thug life is when you have nothing, and succeed, when you have overcome all obstacles to reach your aim."When my heart beats, it screams THUG LIFE." Michael Dunn is lying! I do not believe he said I hate that thug music then all my heart I truly believe that he said I hate black people. Michael Dunn social life does not allow him to be around thug music or people who are African American, Latino/Spanish speaking even Caucasian thug, they come in all races. Michael Dunn lied in his police interview and then he testified and change his testimony to Jordan Davis got out of the car. You're wrong for stating that African Americans are not upset or not doing anything about black on black crime. Caucasian lie and say they are not racist when they are, I'm not afraid to say that I am racist against the people who hates me a mix African American, Caucasian Cherokee Indian and Irish Decent.

Actually Tevans it is against the law to play your music to loud in public without a permit. It's called disturbing the peace. Jacksonville does have a noise ordinance to prevent that. Not that people care about following the rules for everyone.

You cannot preach about the GOOD, KIND, DECENT people of all races if you ALLOW ANYONE to go around BLARING THEIR NOISY 'MUSIC' AND DISTURBING THE PEACE OF THESE SAME GOOD, KIND, DECENT, PEOPLE. A lot of these GOOD, KIND, DECENT people of ALL races get IMMEDIATE,SEVERE,DIBILATATING MIGRAINES FROM THIS LOUD VIBRATING MUSIC. WHERES THE GOODNESS? WHERES THE DECENCY? WHERES THE KINDNESS? I agree realchange, it took the Law 3 DAYS to go back and look for a weapon. The Law did not even interview the 3 in the car, much less secure BOTH areas with possible cameras.

Wild west days? People knew better than force their music on someone else and when asked to turn it down scream back obscenities. Oh I forgot it's ok to force your culture on someone who might cannot think clearly cause the BOOM BOOM is going so loud it's impossible to think. That's not justification to shoot the boy however. Yet I get the sneaky feeling they did produce some kind weapon and threaten him. Make them testify before God and Man none them did this. Make sure their pastors explain to them if you lie you cannot enter into heaven. They got rid of something in that SUV. Might just been pot might been a gun or something that looked like a gun.

This isn't just about the Davis family. It's about good kind decent people everywhere of all races who do not want a return to the wild west days of folks killing each other over perceived slights. We have a little thing called 'due process' in our Constitution that says folks cannot be judge jury and executioner just because they have a gun. We cry about the comparison to Black folks who shoot each other but we never mention that White on White crime is 86% while Black on Black is 93%. Not that much difference. 97% of all Mass shootings in America are done by White people. I know that White people are entirely capable as anyone else to commit heinous crimes. Our history proves this.

Corey cannot be trusted to do her job honestly remove her from this trial. She showed that in Trayvon Martin case. She lies and cheats her way through the courtrooms.

I hate to say this but they need to put the people in that SUV on the stand and record them putting their hand on the Bible and testifying before man and Almighty God that they did not threaten Dunn with any object. After that is done convict him of murder. If they did threaten him in way or shape they precipitated this. The youth pastors so quick to defend them should explain lying under oath to man and more importantly God is not something you get away with on judgment day.

multiple gun shots is bad. Worse is Corey. She is dishonest we found that out in the Trayvon Martin case. What in the hell is Jacksonville thinking that an un ethical prosecutor will tell the truth in any case? She and Judge Nelson with held evidence showing Trayvon Martin to be criminal, agresive and shopping for street guns to make a snitch bleed. Jacksonville citizens demand her removal from office. She conspired to destroy that data rather than hand it over to defense attorney's as the law requires.
