FCAT testing at LaVilla School of the Arts delayed
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Education has delayed the start of the FCAT at LaVilla School of the Arts in an effort to cope with the school's tragedy.
Duval Schools Superintendent Dr. Nikolai P. Vitti requested the delay less than 24 hours after what police say was the accidental killing of 13-year-old Titania Mitchell.
FCAT testing will now start Tuesday at the LaVilla School.
"This is a great loss that we share with the Mitchell family. The incident has weighed on us since we received the news and our continued prayers are directed to the student, family and community," Dr. Vitti said in a statement.
