JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Transportation believes it will have the Mathews Bridge back open before the Florida-Georgia game. The work will begin as early as Wednesday morning.
The FDOT held a news conference Tuesday afternoon to announce the name of the contractor that will do the work.
Superior Construction won the 40-day contract. The bid is for $1.07 million. It was the lowest bid submitted.
The contract includes $500,000 in incentives if the work is done early, another $500,000 to implement new traffic patterns and enforcement, and $800,000 to cover the inspection.
The total contract value is for $2.87 million.

FDOT told Action News the main span over the river cannot handle any traffic right now, not even construction equipment.
Superior Construction has headquarters in Jacksonville and Gary, Ind. The company has been in Jacksonville since 1987.
It helped to build the Skyway and is currently working on the 9B project.
