FHP: Bicyclist thrown into ditch by unknown driver

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Troopers are looking for a driver who clipped a bicyclist, throwing him into a ditch where he was found hours later in critical condition.

Tuesday night, Lorin Leuthold, 48, was riding his bicycle north in the bicycle lane on Philips Highway when an unknown driver struck the rear of his bicycle, throwing him into a ditch.

When Leuthold did not return home after several hours, his friends became concerned and searched for him until they found him on the side of Philips Highway near Grand Bay Parkway.

His friends called 911 and Leuthold was transported to Orange Park Medical where he remains with critical injuries.

According to the FHP, there is likely damage to the headlight and the right front of the hit and run vehicle.
