FHP ID's pedestrian hit and killed in crash on U.S. 90

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the pedestrian hit and killed by a driver in a crash early Monday morning.

According to FHP, 25-year-old Kristian D. Bennett hit 37-year-old Elizabeth Chessman with her Chevy on U.S. 90, near County Road 121. 

Troopers said they received the call around 5:45 a.m. 

FHP said Chessman wore dark clothing.

According to FHP's preliminary investigation, that woman walked in and out of the roadway.

Troopers said Bennett thought she hit a deer and realized she hit Chessman. 

According to FHP, the 25-year-old woman remained on scene and cooperated with troopers.

FHP said Chessman died at the scene. 

Chessman is survived by her 7-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter.
