Fatal crash along Nocatee Parkway

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- Traffic homicide investigators with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash between a SUV and a bicycle on the Nocatee Parkway mid-morning Sunday.

The crash occurred when a Honda SUV struck a Cannondale bicycle ridden by Jared C. Bynum, 30, of Jacksonville. Both the bicycle and the SUV were eastbound in the right lane when the crash occurred.

Bynum was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies tell Action News that they are looking into the possibility that sun glare might have played a role in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We were coming along just after it happened. My husband was driving and said,"what is that car doing parked in the road?!" I said, "What car? I don't see a car." We had to get almost upon the car for me to see it. So, it was the sun. It was extremely bright that morning and very hard to see objects until you were right up on them.
