JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A father was sentenced to six years in prison for accidentally shooting his baby.

Justin Satterfield, 27, was sentenced to six years, with a three-year minimum mandatory.

In December 2010, Satterfield and his girlfriend, Brandy Purvis, were arrested after their baby was accidentally shot. They had been arguing over a rifle when it went off, hitting their 7-month-old child in the arm and chest. The child has recovered.

In August, Satterfield pleaded guilty to charges of child neglect, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.

Purvis pleaded guilty to a charge of child neglect and was sentenced to time served, 155 days, and to two years of probation.

I don't understand why this trash got off so easily.. Since he was a convicted felon, that was NOT suppose to have a gun in his possession, he should have been charged with attempted murder. What happened to the baby after recovery? Are they going to be allowed to keep custody? It must be TRUE an innocent child has to DIE before this scum is taken off the street.

Considering he was felon I can see why he was charged. To bad he if you want kill someone just get concealed carry permit get a gun that has no safety and drop it in a cyber cafe. The police will let you walk with kiling someone then.
