JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Federal agents have stopped the largest case of identity theft in our area.

The Secret Service, IRS, the State Attorney's Office and JSO all participated in "Operation Zig Zag."  17 people were arrested for bank fraud and identity theft, after a seven month investigation. The fraud ring stretched from Jacksonville to New York.

Investigators say the suspects stole the identities of 185 victims, including some children.

The suspects filed $500,000 in false tax returns under the victim's names. They managed to collect about $340,000 from the government. Many of the victims were Citibank card holders.
