I personally will vote against ANY council member that went along with this. Hopefully, they too will be looking for employment.

In my opinion it is time that Sherriff Rutherford stops whining about budget cuts and get to work and do what the city of Jacksonville hired him to do, “FIGURE IT OUT.” There are definitely ways that he can figure this budget including the cut. My first suggestion would be to limit Officer’s use of the police cruisers. Conventional wisdom has it that the visibility of police cruisers deters crime. That may apply to most of the large cities where the officers live where they work. In the case of Jacksonville, the officers do not live in the areas where we are being hit with most of the crime. I strongly suggest that officers drive their personal vehicles to and from work as well as their other personal duties. We see JSO Officers dropping kids off to school, spouses off to work, running personal errands and using the vehicle for their own R& R. This is not fair to the citizens. They are not deterring crime and they are not helping distressed citizens, they are only wasting money. An average family may spend $150 per week in gas. That is $600 per month. That is $7,200 per year. If we multiply that amount times 3,000 officers, that is approximately 21.6 million dollars per year. Give or take a little, this is probably what is being wasted on non-duty petroleum expenses. I do not want my property taxes raised because Rutherford wants to play difficult with the Mayor. He (Rutherford has to understand when the going gets tuff, the tuff get going), Now stop complaining and do your job. Or don’t run for any other offices because you’re not capable.

'Sheriff John Rutherford is one step closer to getting his money back'. EXCUSE ME? TAXPAYER MONEY!!!!! I am sick and tired of seeing the cops grouped about in the back of parking lots, in the boonies, etc., yucking it up and hanging out. I see people flying through school zones, crawling up drivers' tails, weaving around on the road...all while patrol cars are in sight. Lose the bad ones, offer incentives that can be met to the good ones, and do it like you want to make a difference. This is no different than robbing us in our sleep. .... No wonder people can't sell their homes for their value. Who in the world would want to pay the taxes in this city when you could spend more wisely?

Why does JSO run a drug treatment center when we have drug rehab centers all over this city and surrounding cities that would probably be more benificial than putting them in a center with their buddies that they already knew on the streets.
