BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- The “knockout” game is when a person tries to knock a random person unconscious with one punch.

Glynn County Police Chief Matthew Doering said it happened at the Walmart in Brunswick.

“It came to our attention. We investigated further and fortunately we were able to gather the evidence to arrest four people,” said Doering.

Police said Brandon Allen Jr. delivered the punch, but Kaleb Dirting, Ramone Roberson and Jervon Sanderson will all face one felony count of first degree cruelty toward a child because the victim is 16 years old. The fire chief’s son and nephew were shopping when the attack happened.

The news disgusted Walmart shopper Patrick Williams.

“Innocent people shouldn't have to go through that. You’re minding your own business and someone comes up to you and punches you in the face for no reason at all? I think it's ridiculous,” said Williams.

Doering said part of the reason that felony charges are being pressed is to send a message that the game will not be tolerated in Brunswick.

“This is a good case to let everyone know it's not a game. No, it's not entertaining, and no, it's not OK. And yes, regardless of your age, it should be a felony,” said Doering.

Police said the victim is fine, but the case is still under investigation. The Brunswick City and Glynn County violent crimes task force got involved and part of the investigation is to uncover if the knockout game is gang-related.

Doering said charges like battery and assault are pending.

When it's 4 against 1, I wouldn't have a problem at all with only 3 being left standing. I received an email last week where an 86 year old man was the target of the knockout game consisting of a group of 4. As a result, the 86 y/o died. A real shame no one was around to level the playing field for this elderly person.

Many of you saying this guy is all around good guy is still not addressing what I said. If it had been a poor man's son there would been no investigation, and it probably would not have made the news. Additionally, as I have said had it been all blacks on white it would not have made the news. Not belittling the fact his son got attacked. I am stating that it doesn't matter when poor people are attacked as there is double standard in the laws in this country.

Well now that its in our backyard is it time for action or do we just continue to let the cancer grow and mutate to the point it cant be fixed? Black violence is absolutely horrible, but it is also an issue among many afreakans, not just the ones here in the US. Take a look at the afreakan papers and see what the headlines consist of; its actually very similar just on a much larger scale. Violence and lack of respect for life is the standard underlying tone that is apparent universally. Thats the case and what do we do? Our news organizations continue to try and spin it in a non hate crime non black violence way when the nugs that are doing it and posting it on hip hop nug today.com are saying the exact opposite. So here we are stuck in a situation where the things that are perpetrating the crimes dont seem to be able to control themselves and it is not just a localized issue to the US but in fact worldwide, that being the case it has to be addressed as such. If it walks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck then sure its a duck ; BUT why are we surprised and shocked when we take a turtle and throw it off of a building and it doesnt fly like a duck? Because if you call a turtle a turtle then you are a turtle racist, and when the turtle comes into the duck pond and starts eating all of the baby ducks and thiers turtle carcases all over the place from inter-turtle violence issues and the ducks nest gets all messed up and shody becasue the turtles just dont care and "aint gonna live like no ducks since and if you dont like it you can just duck off duck head" and the pond is being over run with baby turtles that the ducks are expected to raise and feed and take care of even though the turtles dont want to do anything but do to the clubs and "chill turtle" and if the ducks cant call the turtles "turtles" becasue thats the turtles word, then maybe its time to get rid of the turtles before the ducks are all gone... maybe?

I have yet to hear any mention by the media of this being a hate crime.

"The 'knockout' game is when a person tries to knock a random person unconscious with one punch." It's more than just that. Do your job reporter.

Oh hush,it wouldn't have mattered whose kid was punched. Matt Doering never would have let these kids get away with hurting an innocent child. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about!

The question should be asked what if it had been a poor person's son? Would the police even took the time to investigate or do anything? We all know the answer then.
