JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- A Jacksonville firefighter remains in jail after being accused of beating and sexually assaulting a woman in an alleyway.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, units were called to 11 East Forsyth Street early Sunday morning in reference to a battery in progress.
When officers arrived, a witness met them at the entrance to the parking garage next to the alley and said that he had seen a bald male wearing dark clothing beating up a female on the ground below him.
As police entered the alley, the suspect was seen jumping over a fence and landing on the north side of East Forsyth Street.
The victim was treated by rescue on scene. She told police that she was walking to her car from Dos Gatos Bar when she was struck in the head and knocked to the ground. She them told police she was sexually assaulted and beaten by an unknown man.
A man that fit the suspect's description was found and detained in a parking lot near the 200 block of East Monroe Street. The witness was taken to the suspect's location where he positively identified him as the attacker.
The suspect was identified as Daniel Archie Evans, 30, an employee of the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department. Evans is currently being held in the Duval County Jail with no bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 17.
