JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville firefighter, Daniel Evans, pleaded not guilty in court Thursday morning to beating and sexually assaulting a woman in an alleyway.

According to Judge Adrian Soud, there are eight witnesses in the case but Evans, 30, decided to stay with his plea of not guilty.

On June 25, 2012, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called to 11 East Forsyth Street in reference to a battery in progress.

When officers arrived, a witness met them at the entrance to the parking garage next to the alley and said he had seen a bald male wearing dark clothing beating up a female on the ground below him.

As police entered the alley, the suspect was seen jumping over a fence and landing on the north side of East Forsyth Street.

The victim was treated by rescue on scene. She told police she was walking to her car from Dos Gatos Bar when she was struck in the head and knocked to the ground. She then told police she was sexually assaulted and beaten by an unknown man.

A man that fit the suspect's description was found and detained in a parking lot near the 200 block of East Monroe Street. The witness was taken to the suspect's location where he positively identified him as the attacker.

The suspect was identified as Daniel Archie Evans, an employee of the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department.

Evans is still being held in the Duval County Courthouse and his next hearing is on August, 14 2012.
