JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 31-year-old in town for the Florida-Georgia game died overnight in a Southside pond.

Police responded to the 4600 block of Lenior Avenue before 4 a.m. to reports 31-year-old Ottice Hamer was having trouble swimming.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says Hamer had recently returned from partying with friends at the Jacksonville Landing, when he inadvertently ran into the pond.

Hamer's friends could not swim and called police.

Hamer was later recovered by JSO divers.

Wonder why they did not form a human chain and try and get him out? Too drunk? How far did he walk in before he knew he was in a pond? If the friends could not swim, they could hold hands for a chain and try and reach him. Too many questions here.
