MIAMI (AP) - A Miami police officer stopped after a state trooper clocked him going 120 miles per hour on Florida's Turnpike has been fired.

The Miami Police Department confirmed Friday that Fausto Lopez had been terminated a day earlier. An internal investigation report released in July stated that Lopez showed a pattern of reckless speeding and should be fired. Lopez pleaded no contest to reckless driving in April and avoided jail time.

Lopez's arrest last October was captured on a Florida Highway Patrol car's dashboard camera after a trooper stopped him for speeding in Broward County. The widely viewed video showed the trooper approaching Lopez's police cruiser with her gun drawn and handcuffing him.

A South Florida Sun Sentinel investigation using toll records found Lopez had regularly reached speeds over 100 mph on the turnpike.
